Can a double roll crusher be used for sand making?

2026-03-20 Visits:

Double roll crushers can indeed be used for sand production under certain conditions, but their applicability depends primarily on the characteristics of the raw materials and the specific requirements for the finished sand.

This equipment uses two counter-rotating rollers to compress, split, and grind materials into fine powder. Its biggest advantage is minimal over-grinding, resulting in more regular, cubical particle shapes with relatively low powder content. For brittle materials of medium to low hardness, such as coal gangue, shale, limestone, or some construction waste, double roll crushers can efficiently produce manufactured sand that meets construction sand standards. Furthermore, by adjusting the gap between the two rollers, the operator can flexibly control the output particle size to adapt to different production needs.

However, when dealing with high-hardness rocks, such as granite or basalt, the wear of double roll crushers increases dramatically, leading to a shortened roller life and a significant increase in maintenance costs. In this case, its economic efficiency is far inferior to that of impact crushers or cone crushers. Simultaneously, if the raw material has excessive moisture, it is prone to adhering to the roller surface, causing blockages and affecting continuous operation.

In conclusion, while double roll crushers can produce sand, they are not a panacea. They are better suited for processing materials with medium to low hardness and dryness. When selecting equipment, a comprehensive consideration must be given to the physical properties of the raw materials, expected output, and investment budget to ensure maximum efficiency and profitability of the production line.
