Comparison of the advantages and disadvantages of 3 common sand making processes

2025-06-04 Visits:

Aggregates of sand and gravel are important raw materials for construction, roads, bridges and other projects, and the choice of sand making process directly affects the quality of sand and gravel, production costs and environmental benefits. The current mainstream sand making processes include impact crushing, cone crushing and rod milling. This article will compare the three processes from the perspectives of principle, advantages and disadvantages, and applicable scenarios to help users scientifically choose sand making equipment.

1. Impact sand making machine: excellent particle shape and high efficiency, but the wear cost needs attention

Principle: The material is ejected into the crushing chamber through the high-speed rotating impeller, and the collision and impact between the materials are used to crush it into sand.

Advantages of impact sand making machine:

▶ Excellent finished product particle shape: a high proportion of multi-angular sand particles, reasonable grading, and in line with the construction sand standards. ▶ Strong adjustability: By adjusting the impeller speed and feed amount, the fineness modulus of sand can be flexibly controlled (2.2-3.0). ▶ High production efficiency: The single machine capacity can reach 50-600 tons/hour, which is suitable for large-scale production.

Disadvantages of impact sand making machine:

▶ High cost of wear parts: impeller, peripheral guard plate and other parts are easy to wear, and maintenance costs increase when processing high-hardness materials (such as granite). ▶ High content of stone powder: A powder selection machine or water washing equipment is required, otherwise it may affect the strength of concrete.

Applicable scenarios: Sand making of medium-hardness materials (limestone, basalt), construction sand projects with high requirements for particle shape.

2. Cone crusher sand making machine: strong wear resistance, low cost, but particle shape needs to be optimized

Principle: The machine-made sand is produced through the extrusion crushing and lamination crushing between the moving cone and the fixed cone.

Advantages of cone crusher sand making machine:

▶ Good wear resistance: High manganese steel lining is used, and the service life is 2-3 times that of the impact crusher, which is suitable for processing high-hardness rocks. ▶ Low operating cost: The unit energy consumption is 15%-20% lower than that of the impact crusher, and the power consumption is about 0.8-1.2kW·h/ton. ▶ Good dust control: The closed-loop circulation system reduces dust and has a high environmental protection compliance rate.

Cone crusher sand making machine disadvantages:

▶ Poor particle shape: needle-shaped particles account for more than 10%, and need to be matched with shaping machine or screening equipment. ▶ Low fine sand output: The proportion of 0.6-2.36mm particles in the finished product is insufficient, and the grading needs to be optimized.

Applicable scenarios: Sand making of high-hardness rocks (granite, diabase), comprehensive utilization of mining resources projects.

3. Rod mill sand making: uniform particle size, low powder content, but high energy consumption

Principle: Use the rolling grinding effect of steel rods and materials to produce fine sand, which has both crushing and shaping functions.

Rod mill sand making machine advantages:

▶ Uniform particle size: The fineness modulus of the finished sand is stable at 2.6-3.0, and the stone powder content is less than 10%. ▶ Good environmental performance: The wet process can effectively reduce dust, and impurities can be removed with water washing equipment.

Rod mill disadvantages:

▶ High energy consumption: unit power consumption is 2.5-3.5kW·h/ton, more than twice that of impact crusher. ▶ Limited production capacity: single machine output is usually less than 200 tons/hour, and the equipment occupies a large area.

Applicable scenarios: special projects with high requirements for sand roundness (such as hydropower station concrete), small fine sand plants.
